New Straits Times – Selangor First To Adopt LKL International’s Trace Tokens

KUALA LUMPUR: LKL International Bhd (LKL) is targeting Selangor as the first state to adopt trace tokens, to assist the state’s efforts in containing the spread of the Covid-19 virus, particularly in hotspots such as workplaces, factories and construction sites. Its subsidiary, LKL Advance Metaltech Sdn Bhd (LAM), had secured exclusive distributorship rights for iWOW Technology Pte Ltd’s (iTPL) trace token nationwide. Currently, iTPL is supplying a similar device used in Singapore as part of the the government’s trace together contact tracing program. LKL managing director Lim Kon Lian this exclusive distributorship agreement would enhance current contact tracing efforts and complements the upcoming vaccination programme in keeping all Malaysians safe in the Covid-19 environment. “As a first target, we have earmarked factories and construction sites within Selangor as potential areas to use trace token. “With the Selangor government aiming to implement an outbreak prevention programme at all industrial and manufacturing workplaces, we will proactively seek to commence discussions with the relevant parties on potential collaborations. “Currently, a team at Universiti Malaya will initiate and conduct the pilot project for trace token. This reach to other sectors will also be alongside initiatives to market trace token to our current wide network of contacts within the healthcare sector,” he said in a statement today.

LAM will market, sell and distribute trace token manufactured by iTPL across Malaysia. Trace token is a small bluetooth device that securely automates the contact tracing process. It detects nearby trace tokens and securely stores the contact history, which can be downloaded to facilitate contact tracing efforts. As at 23 February 2021, Selangor had 96,237 confirmed cases, accounting for approximately 33 per cent of Malaysia’s total of 288,229 Covid-19 infections. This distributorship agreement will be for an initial duration of two years, and renewable thereafter upon future consensus between both parties. Established in 1999, Singapore-based iTPL is a global provider of wireless technologies to the mobile and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication markets, and is engaged in the business of manufacturing and supplying trace token.
